By NICHOLAS KOLASSKI | The Associated PressBIG NEWSSTORY, Alabama (AP) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new type of fat-loss drug that can help people lose weight without using drugs.
The FDA says it expects to see more clinical trials of the drug, which uses a type of fatty-acid hormone called EGF, by the end of the year.
The agency approved the drug last year.
The drug is approved to treat the type of obesity that occurs when a person’s body tries to store fat.
Fat is a common component of the body.
It can be used to help reduce the amount of fat people are carrying around in the bloodstream.
That’s because it can also help cells produce more energy.
The company behind the drug says it’s the first fat-burner approved for use in humans.
The drug can also be used for people who already have a disease that makes them more likely to become obese.
Dr. Matthew Pfeifer, who leads the FDA’s fat-control team, says EGF has the potential to slow the development of heart disease, the second leading cause of death in the U.A.C. study found that EGF helped people lose about 5.5 pounds (2.2 kilograms) on average.
That was about the same as the amount they would lose without the drug.
The agency is also evaluating whether the drug can help other types of obesity.
It says it is also studying whether the fat-burning drugs could be more effective in people with diabetes.
